Seniors

Our Seniors including myself are our number one asset in our community and as I talk to them they have expressed concerned about not having enough money for medicine, food, clothing and fearful of being a victim of crimes. The residences they do have are becoming infiltrated with violent felons who can reside in these very same places that have been allocated for Senior living. We have public housing police and elderly high rise police and without their presence our Seniors would be more vulnerable. Seniors should be able to live without the fear of being broken into or even worse assaulted. Here again we need to increase our police staffing levels in Senior housing to adequately provide a safe place for our citizens to live. If that means putting in police substations in these residences then this is something that has to be done. I understand that under Federal guidelines that persons who have disabilities under the age of 64 can live in Elderly Housing but what I don't understand is the crime that can sometimes go along with it and will look into policies about people who commit crimes while living in Senior housing, and forfeiting their right to live there. We must protect our Seniors at all costs and those costs are what they paid into all their lives and we cannot let them down. As Seniors we can build upon a time when Brocton worked and ultilizing the strenghts, goals and commitments of our Seniors, I see them having a vital role in helping Brockton on the road to recovery. We have untapped resources in our Seniors and I feel with the right motivation and time and place our Seniors will become the role models for us and contribute to Brockton in a way that has never been seen before.
